CHENNAI, MARCH 31. The Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT) has taken another positive step in engaging Meru Sports Technology Services, a local promoter of SiliconCoach Pro, a video-based motion analysis system prepared by New Zealand-based bio mechanist, Joe Morrison, for data and video analysis services for both coaching and match analysis of athletes in particular and various sportspersons in general. The SDAT has invited all its district coaches for a four-day clinic at the Nehru stadium here. The coaches were given training to use the system to prepare the details of all the leading athletes and sportspersons in their region for a data base at the headquarters here. "Our aim is to collect all the recordings and analyse the defects of athletes and players before rectifying them. When we get any foreign coach we can immediately show him the action analysis," said P.W.C. Davidar, Member Secretary, SDAT. Its main features are 1. simple video capture interface links to any digital camera 2. easy synchronisation and display of split screens from multiple cameras (up to 4 camera views at a time) 3. drawing and measurement tools including the ability to calculate angles, distances and speeds. It displays 50 to 60 images per second of footage captured, according to demonstrator C.K.M. Dhananjai of Meru, whose clients include BCCI, ICC, MRF Pace Foundation, National Cricket Academy (Bangalore), TN Tennis Association and Bangladesh Cricket Board. Our Special Correspondent
