By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI,
MARCH 31.
The President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, today condoled the death of cartoonist, O.V. Vijayan.
In his message to the bereaved family, the President said Vijayan's many talents were "evident through his cartoons that graced the pages of many leading newspapers and his political satire and entertaining short stories as a writer''.
The Union Minister of Information & Broadcasting and Culture, S. Jaipal Reddy, said in Vijayan's death, "the nation has lost a veteran who would punch the people's conscience with bold sketches''.
In his message, the Minister said: "Vijayan was a multi-faceted personality a novelist, a columnist and short story writer. But it was his extraordinary skill as a political cartoonist that won him the most acclaim.''
