The deadline for the payment of tax ended on Thursday. The Mayor, Dakshinamurthy, said property owners are coming forward to pay property tax and could pay it till April 3. The decision to extend the deadline was taken at a meeting of the corporation council today after members of the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Janata Dal (Secular) demanded that the deadline be extended till April 10. He said the zonal centres will be open on Sunday to collect property tax and cheques issued on Thursday could be deposited till April 3. The Leader of the Opposition in the corporation council, Shivakumar, said the deadline should be extended as the zonal centres face a shortage of staff.
