Musical feature on health tomorrow

MYSORE, MARCH 31. Maintaining health through music. Well, that is what a unique musical feature, "Vachana Vaidya" (musical doctor) promises to the people of Mysore.

Organised by R.S. Nanda Kumar, the programme will be staged at Jaganmohan Palace on April 2 at 5.30 p.m.

Mr. Nanda Kumar and other young and talented musicians will present songs of Shivasharanas, Haridasa and Tattvapadakaras with reference to health and its preservation.

According to Mr. Nanda Kumar, there are a number of unique compositions dealing with mental, physical and community health and a team of musicians and doctors drew inspiration from this to organise the programme.

Mr. Nanda Kumar said some of the most melodious compositions of Shivasharanas, Haridasa, Tattvapadakaras and other traditional songs will be rendered along with sacred Vedic hymns. The programme is aimed at giving practical and wholesome picture on how best to regain health in these turbulent times of great stress and tension. The growing ambition also places people under stress.

The musical feature will highlight the health aspects through melodious renderings and a team of eminent doctors will describe and educate the public on how to manage health and various medical safety measures to maintain and manage one's health, guided and inspired by the musical feature to be performed by the group.

This is reckoned to be the first of such a programme being held in the city where music is juxtaposed with medical counselling and is being supported by the Department of Culture, Government of India.

Entry to the programme is free and provision has been made for the audience to ask questions to doctors regarding health. The medico-musical evening will feature renderings accompanied by a grand instrumental ensemble. Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji of Suttur Mutt will be present.
