Birlas to set up aluminium smelter in Jharkhand

RANCHI,
MARCH 31.
The Jharkhand Government today signed an MOU with the Aditya Birla Group for setting up a 3.25 lakh tonnes capacity aluminium smelter project and a captive thermal power plant of 600 MW in the State. The Rs. 7,800-crore project is proposed to be set up at Tumbagarha of Latehar district. In the presence of the Chairman of the Aditya Birla Group, Kumar Mangalam Birla, and the Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Arjun Munda, the MOU was signed by the State Industries Secretary, S. K. Satpathy, and the Managing Director of Hindalco, D. Bhattacharya.
Mr. Birla said a 30-month target had been fixed to complete the project.
