THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, MARCH 31. More than 10,000 collection agents, working for cooperatives in the State on commission basis, would be confirmed in service, the Minister for Cooperation, M. V. Raghavan, said here today. The Minister said that six months service would be the minimum requirement for confirmation, but many were working as collection agents for years. Along with them, about 600 persons working as mazdoors and helpers for the State Consumer Federation, on contract basis and daily wages, would also be confirmed. They would get pension and other benefits. However, they would not have any scope for promotions.
Agriculture loans
Mr. Raghavan criticised that the cooperatives were not showing sufficient interests in extending agricultural loans to the farmers. The Government wanted them to earmark at least 25 per cent of the funds for farm loans and give priority to applications for such loans.
