Patient care at General Hospital `not up to the mark'

By Our Staff Reporter

Pondicherry March 31. Anibal Kennedy (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) today called upon the Health Department to pay adequate attention to patients coming to the Government General Hospital here.

He charged in the Assembly that a patient who got admitted to the hospital with a leg fracture did not get timely attention. Even after he intervened, nothing was done and case sheets were not made available to him. Later the patient got admitted to a private hospital.

. Health Minister E. Valsaraj said there was no delay in paying attention to patients, particularly in the orthopaedic wing. Immediate treatment was available, he said. He furnished details on the number of patients admitted and surgeries done in the wing last year. If there was any lapse, action would be taken against erring personnel, he said. Chief Minister N. Rangasamy also referred to the good service available in the hospital. A number of patients from outside Pondicherry were taking treatment in the hospital, he said.
