PONDICHERRY, MARCH 31. The Chief Minister, N. Rangasamy, told the AIADMK member, A. Anbalagan, during question time in the Assembly today that police were conducting frequent inspections of hotels where cultural programmes were conducted. He said there were no complaints of any cabaret programme or gambling in the hotels. But if any specific instances were brought to notice, stern action would be taken, he said. Earlier raising the issue, Mr. Anbalagan said it was indeed a sorry scenario that cabaret dances were conducted with full liberty. Such shows were degrading to women and led the youth down the wrong path. He mentioned the places where such programmes were held. He said the entertainment tax due to the Government from hotels ran to several lakhs of rupees.
