Orissa Assembly stalemate ends
By Our Staff Reporter
BHUBANESWAR,
MARCH 31.
The weeklong confrontation between the Opposition legislators of Orissa and the Assembly Speaker, Maheswar Mohanty, came to an end today with Mr. Mohanty expressing regret for his comments on the floor of the House.
Peeved at Mr. Mohanty's remarks against a Congress Member on March 23, the Opposition legislators had been boycotting the Assembly proceedings whenever he was in the Chair.
The Opposition members returned to the House this afternoon after Mr. Mohanty told the House that his remark against the legislator was not intentional.
The Opposition legislators had also approached the Governor, Rameshwar Thakur, on Wednesday seeking his intervention to restore normality in the Assembly.
