KOZHIKODE, MARCH 31. The Cable TV Operators Association (COA) today announced that it would boycott programmes of the popular Discovery, Sony, Animal Planet and AXN channels from April 1. The Association blamed what it called the steep hike in fee effected by the owners of these pay channels for the withdrawal of these channels from its cable network. The COA general secretary, K. Govindan, told mediapersons here that the norms laid by the Government-appointed agency to prevent indiscriminate hike in fee by broadcasters had not been effective. The alternative was to increase the monthly subscription from the customers, which cable TV operators in Kerala do not want to do, Mr. Govindan said. The COA has decided that the programmes of these channels need not be telecast unless the latest fee hike is slashed by 40 per cent.
