KOCHI, MARCH 31. The film `Sins' which is facing criticism for portraying a Catholic priest in bad light, is actually a tragic tale, says the writer-director Vinod Pande. Mr. Pande, who has become popular with his first film Ek Baar Phir starring Deepti Naval and Suresh Oberoi, has successively dealt with subjects that are taboo to society. In his new film, made in English, Mr. Pande says, he has not made any comment on any community or religion. The theme revolves around the sexual attraction between a priest and a nurse, whom he had helped to study and find a job. "It is inspired by the real-life incident that happened in Kerala and was reported by the media in 1988," he said during an interaction with the media during his visit to Kochi in connection with the release of Malayalam version of the film. (The film was released in cinemas in the State.) Since the Kerala society is much more evolved in its thinking, the film has been dubbed in Malayalam and in the rest of the country, the film is in English. The film in no way hurts the sentiments of any community, Mr. Pande says.
