Centre notifies dereservation of items from SSI list

NEW DELHI, MARCH 31. The Central Government today notified the 108 items taken off the reservation list for small scale industries, including 20 in the category of textile products, including hosiery. The Finance Minister, P. Chidambaram, had stated in the 2005-06 budget proposals that the Small Scale Industries Ministry had identified 108 items for dereservation with textiles having been included as `a sector poised for rapid growth'. With the notification that has been issued giving effect to this decision, the total items that now remain reserved for the small scale sector are 497.

Apart from textiles, 27 items have been dereserved in the electrical machines appliances and apparatus category while in the rubber products category, as many as 20 items have been dereserved. In the mechanical engineering category, 13 items have been taken off the list.

In the electronics category, radios costing less than Rs. 250 and television antennas, tuners and amplifiers have been dereserved. Among electrical items, a variety of transformers, washing machines, emergency lamps, boilers and heaters can now be manufactured by larger units.

A total of seven items have been taken out of the electronic equipment and components category and six out of the plastic products category. Four items in auto parts, ancillaries and garage equipment category and one item in bicycle parts category have also been dereserved.

In knitted cotton products category, six items have been dereserved, in woollen products ten items, and another ten in knitted synthetic products.
