Army assures adequate security for bus service
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI,
MARCH 31.
The Army today assured adequate security for the bus service between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad due to start on April 7. Militant groups have threatened to target the service but the Chief of the Army Staff, J. J. Singh, said ``whatever is possible'' would be done to ensure the safety of passengers from ``desperate and anti-people'' elements. He felt the militants were resorting to these threats to project their ``independence.''
Speaking to newspersons at a function here, Gen. Singh said the Army would coordinate closely with the State Government as was done during the Assembly elections in Jammu & Kashmir to ensure that the militants were unable to carry out their threat. Besides threatening to target the buses, the militants have also published a list of the first 40 passengers and asked them to refrain from travelling in the ``coffin.''
