Appu seeks charge sheet in Telugu

By Our Special Correspondent

KANCHEEPURAM, MARCH 31. An accused in the "Kanchi Sankararaman murder case" today moved the Magistrate court here seeking a copy of the charge sheet in Telugu, which, he said, was his mother tongue.

Submitting the petition on behalf of the accused Appu, his counsel citing a High Court order in another case, said his client was entitled to seek the charge sheet copy in Telugu. He submitted that the court could dispose of the application before posting the case for examining the approver. The prosecutor could not hurry up the case.

Opposing the application, the prosecutor submitted that the accused had studied up to standard XI in Tamil medium. The accused knew Tamil. The petition had been filed only to protract the proceedings.

The Judicial Magistrate-I, G. Uthamaraj, said merely because some applications were pending, further proceedings in the case could not be halted.
