Life term for five in murder case

THRISSUR, MARCH 31. The Thrissur First Additional Sessions Judge, Sunil Thomas, has sentenced five persons to life imprisonment in the case relating to the murder of the CPI(M) activist Thalikkulam I.K. Ravi on February 5, 1998.

The five convicted persons are Chinju alias Chandrakumar (28), Nedumparambil Girish (23), Mancharambath Sajivan (23), Nambikariat Rajiv alias Sajivan (20) and Missile Raju (26).

All of them are reported to be RSS activists.

There were 21 accused in the case and three of them are absconding.

13 acquitted

The court acquitted the remaining 13 persons.

Apart from life imprisonment, the five persons have also been sentenced to two years of imprisonment under Section 148 of the IPC and another two years under Section 302 of the IPC.

The incident occurred during the election campaign of the late CPI leader V.V. Raghavan during the Lok Sabha elections in 1998.

The case related to the alleged attack by the RSS activists on the CPI(M) activists when the latter were returning after an election meeting at Thalikkulam.
