JAIPUR, MARCH 31. The Rajasthan State Seeds Corporation is supplying seeds to the farmers to meet about 30 per cent of the demand for kharif crops and 40 per cent for the rabi crops and has taken steps for research on improving the quality of seeds, besides enhancing the storage capacity. Stating this in the written reply to a question in the Assembly today, the Agriculture Minister, Prabhulal Saini, pointed out that fulfilling the entire demand of farmers was not possible at this stage, while the National Seeds Corporation, Kribhco and the private firms were also making their contribution to meet the farmers' needs. Mr. Saini, replying to the question by Rao Rajendra Singh, said the State Seeds Corporation had been trying to increase its share in the supplies to farmers and was considering taking up projects for increasing the production of certified seeds and producing and distributing seeds for vegetables, spices and medicinal and aromatic plants. Citing the figures of supply of seeds by the Corporation, Mr. Saini stated that against the estimated demand of 2.01-lakh quintals for rabi crops during 2004-05, the Corporation made available 62,815 quintals. The demand for seeds for the kharif crops during the year amounted to 4.27-lakh quintals, against which the Corporation supplied 1.81 quintals.
