Achampet police station attacked by Maoists

HYDERABAD, MARCH 31. Three constables were injured when suspected Maoists attacked the Achampet police station in Mahbubnagar district on Thursday night.

According to reports reaching here, the condition of the two injured policemen - Prabhakar and Shankar Nayak - was stated to be critical. They have been rushed to the Mahbubnagar hospital. Police said the police station came under attack around 8.40 p.m. Suspected Maoists were reported to have opened fire injuring head constable Laxman, constable Prabhakar and wireless operator Nayak.

Interestingly, minutes before the attack, power went off. A CRP platoon guarding the station returned the fire, but the assailants are understood to have fled the scene. The Maoists also opened fire on a police outpost at Mannanuru village in Amrabad police station area a few minutes after the Achampet firing. However, nobody was injured. Police forces are moving to Achampet area.
