ADILABAD, MARCH 31. The Adilabad rural police on Thursday solved the two-yea- old Chanda-T Ayyappa temple double murder case with the arrest of five of a six-member beggar gang. The murders committed on March 21, 2003, had created sensation in the town. The five accused were produced at a press conference addressed by yjr Adilabad Superintendent of Police, Kripanand Tripathi Ujela. The police also recovered some iron rods with which the accused were said to have murdered Bathula Narayana (65), watchman of the temple, and Poluju Satyanarayana (45), an architect during the fateful night. The two were silenced as they woke up while the gang was taking away the hundi of the temple. The SP said Velmala Nagabhushanam (25) of Laxmanchanda, Naabothula Gangaram (30) and Navabothula Eranna (25), both of Balkonda in Nizamabad, Dhanpuri Gangadhar (23) of Kadthal and Pastham Sayanna (25) of Pakpatla village, both under Soan police station limits, were arrested at 2 pm on Thursday near the Hanuman temple on the outskirts of Ponnari village while they were moving under suspicious circumstances. On search, the iron rods were found. The accused confessed to many crimes of which nine were registered by different police stations in the district while six pertain to Nizamabad and Karimnagar. Navabothula Gangaram (36) of Dilawarpur mandal is absconding. The accused beg outside temples.
