It finally happened. Ace-drummer Sivamani performing live for an audience of nearly 5,000 as a part of Tech-A-Break, an annual cultural extravaganza organised by Technopark in the city on Thursday night. Darkness set the scene when suddenly with a burst of light and sound Sivamani emerged on to the centre stage kept ready for the occasion. "You will not find one like him," someone remarked from the crowd as they cheered him chanting `Siva, Siva'. The live show, which was delayed for a day, due to an unexpected shower on Wednesday lived up to its hype by capturing the imagination of the music-loving hearts. The live show also incidentally marked the conclusion of a three-day cultural extravaganza. The proceedings for the evening began with a prize-distribution ceremony for the winners of various competitions held at the Sangamam Open Air Auditorium around 6.30 p.m. The programme went on for nearly an hour. A `Total Remix Explosion' by Cacofonix, a music troupe, followed this. It proved to be a pulse pounding encounter with some of the masters of rhythm and music like Karthik, Chitra Iyer, Timmy, Franko and Saynora, rendering, what they described as the `world music', a combination of old Malayalam, rock-and-roll, Tamil and Hindi numbers. Needless to say each singer played the part to perfection. Their rendition held the crowd swaying. "It is a complete musical experience," said Reba Pual, an employee with one of the companies there. "They have linked up all the music which we have heard in our lives," she said. Some of the popular numbers rendered include `Madapravae Vaa,' `Chandralekha', `Mustafa Mustafa' and `Oops I did it again' by Britany Spears. The vocal magic was accompanied with a brilliant choreography wherein dancers in eye-catching attires got the place rocking with their sensuous performance.
