Co-optex to launch new designs

CHENNAI, MARCH 31. Co-optex has been flooded with scores of creative, new designs after it organised a `Design Competition,' inviting entries in seven product categories. The new designs will be used for commercial production.

Creative designs were called for in the following categories: Woven cotton, printed cotton and woven silk sarees, woven and printed bedsheets, woven and printed furnishings and lunghies. These were submitted in the forms of product, hand-painted and computer-aided design prints.

In all the organisers received 855 new design cards in the seven product categories. The designs received by the regions have been assembled at the Co-optex head office for scrutiny and selection by a panel of judges including the Managing Director, Co-optex, Chairperson, Kalakshetra, The Principal, Ethiraj College and a representative from the National Institute of Fashion Technology.The panel has selected 139 designs (48 from Chennai) in all the seven product categories out of the 855 new designs.

V. Somasundaram, Minister for Handlooms and Textiles gave away the prizes to the winners from Chennai on Thursday.

The Minister released video CDs and inaugurated the sale of new products.
