Life sentence for murder

By Our Staff Reporter

COIMBATORE, MARCH 31 . A 34-year-old salesman of a retail poultry outlet was awarded life sentence here today on charges of murder. According to the prosecution, Rajesh alias Anthony of Thudialur had developed enmity with Simonraj, a sales assistant at a neighbouring shop. Simonraj had stamped a chick to death that belonged to Rajesh, which led to differences between them. On March 11, 2004, Rajesh had severed the neck of Simonraj and dumped the body at a shop.

Cases were registered against him under Sections 302 of IPC (Murder) and 201 (concealing evidence to escape punishment).

The Principal District Sessions Judge, A. Rathinavelu, also slapped a fine of Rs. 5,000 on him. Failing to pay the fine would lead to one more year of imprisonment. For charges under Section 201, three years rigorous imprisonment (RI) and a fine of Rs. 2,000 were given. In default, Rajesh would have to undergo one year of RI. The sentences would run concurrently.
