MADURAI, MARCH 31. THE P eople of Tamil Nadu are disillusioned with the All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and they now await the emergence of a new nationalist force in State politics, said the former Union Minister and general secretary of State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Pon. Radhakrishnan, here today. Mr. Radhakrishnan told presspersons that the BJP was not part of any front in Tamil Nadu but would strive to meet the people's yearning for a new political force. The charges made by the Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, against the DMK leader and Union Minister, T. R. Baalu, in regard to the Pykara power project, and the latter's allegation against the AIADMK over the delay in implementation of the Sethusamudram canal project only showed how the two Dravidian parties were betraying people's interests, he said. He criticised the emerging trend of using Tamil by political parties for personal gains. The Dravidian parties, which came to power in the name of the Tamil language, had done little for its development in the last four decades, he said. Mr. Radhakrishnan alleged that there were discrepancies in the exercise of electoral rolls revision. Many had complained that the names of those who had voted in the 2004 election were missing in the lists used by officials involved in verification. The revision work should be suspended till such time the lists were updated, taking into account the electoral rolls of 2001 and 2004.
