MADURAI, MARCH 31. Members belonging to Tamil Nadu Vanigar Sangangalin Peravai staged a demonstration here today condemning the Union Finance Minister, P. Chidambaram, for his decision to enforce Value Added Tax (VAT) from April 1. Led by the Madurai district president, L. Thagavelu, they demanded the immediate withdrawal of the proposal to implement VAT throughout the nation. They also thanked the Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, and the Chief Ministers of the BJP-ruled States for deferring the decision to implement VAT.
