Weather

Gannavaram airport recorded a maximum temperature of 37.8 degree Celsius and a minimum of 24.9 degrees Celsius on Thursday. Humidity which was 74 per cent in the morning dropped to 59 per cent in the evening.

Commodity prices

The following are the prices (in rupees per kg) of the essential commodities in the local wholesale markets on Thursday, according to the Vijayawada Chamber of Commerce and Industry: groundnut oil - 48.50, palmolein oil - 40.25, sunflower oil - 47.50, tamarind (flower variety) - 21 to 26, tamarind (karipuli variety) - 39 to 46, chillies (AC) - 18 to 20, chillies (new) - 18 to 23, rice (2716) - 12, rice (superfine) - 14, rice (samba masoori) - 15 to 16, rice (sona masoori) - 16 to 17, black gram - 22 to 25, red gram - 22 to 25.50.

Power shutdown

There will be no power supply between 7 a.m. and 12 noon on Friday in some areas under Ring Road and Suryaraopet sections due to a pre-arranged shutdown for maintenance works. The affected areas are: Siddharthanagar, Ramachandranagar, Gayatrinagar, Bank Colony, Kanchukota St, Red Circle area, old Giripuram, new Giripuram, Sikamani Centre, Madhu Chowk and part of Prajasaktinagar. Power supply will also be not available between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. in Satyanarayanapuram, Thadankivari St, Sivalayam St, Giri St, Kommuvari St, Vandanapuvari St, Narravari St, Nallagate, B.P St, Sivarao St, N.P. road and Tirumalasettivari St.

Police directive

The city police have decided to regulate the conduct of processions and meetings under the commissionerate's purview from April 1. Accordingly, people desirous of organising processions or public meetings will have to obtain prior permission from the police.
