HYDERABAD, MARCH 31. The High Power Committee, constituted by the Government to study and suggest necessary reforms in the conduct of the Engineering, Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Test (EAMCET), submitted its report on Thursday. The committee, headed by the former Vice-Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU), P. Dayaratnam, had four other members on it, including G. Shamsunder, former Vice-Chancellor, NTR University of Health Sciences, I.V. Subba Rao, former Vice-Chancellor, Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University, T. Venka Reddy, former Director of Collegiate Education, and Romana Fernandes, former principal, St. Francis College for Women. Though officials refrained from revealing the recommendations, sources said the Government would put the recommendations for public debate before deciding on the changes. Sources said, going by the mood of the committee members, they definitely preferred some changes in the present pattern and giving weightage to Intermediate marks was one of the options. The APSCHE Chairman, K.C. Reddy, told The Hindu that the recommendations would be put before the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, in a day or two. The committee elicited the views of various sections through workshops conducted in six cities -- Hyderabad, Warangal, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Tirupati and Anantapur - and also discussed with academics before finalising the report.
