A farewell to remember

By Our Staff Reporter

KOCHI, MARCH 31. "A principal with a principle", said Kurian Joseph, judge, High Court, about Sister Tessa, the principal of St. Teresa's College, who was accorded a civic reception here today on her last working day.

Retiring after a stint of seven years at the helm of affairs at one of the most prestigious colleges in the city, Sr. Tessa was the force behind the team of inspiring teachers and performing students, said most of the public personalities who gathered to honour the principal.

She stood tall as a teacher and as a holy soul she knew which path to tread, added Mr. Joseph. Working together and being a strong presence for everyone, Sr. Tessa had at one time wondered whether she was capable of stepping into the place where her predecessor Sister Emily had worked, recalled Mr. Joseph.

Many achievements

It was during Sr. Tessa's tenure that the college got the five-star status from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council. Apart from introducing quite a few job-oriented courses in the college like Food and Nutrition, Dietetics, Fashion Designing and Apparel Merchandising, she was also instrumental in introducing Women's Studies as a subject.

The Minister for Fisheries and Sports, Dominic Presentation, said that Sr. Tessa had strived hard to make the college a centre for excellence. K.V. Thomas, MLA, recalled the youthful time in college. He talked eloquently of his native place Kumbalangi, which happens to be Sr. Tessa's native place too.

The Kochi Mayor, C.M. Dinesh Mani, and P.J. Joseph, former Minister for Education, spoke about the excellent relationship Sr. Tessa maintained with people.

At the function, Sr. Tessa Ever-rolling Trophy was instituted and presented to Sr. Tessa for being the best principal of the best college.
