Local holiday declared

KOCHI, MARCH 31. The District Collector, A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish, has declared a local holiday on April 2 for government and quasi-government offices and schools within the limits of the Cochin Corporation and Thrikakkara panchayat. Examinations will be conducted as scheduled, according to statement from the Collectorate.

Power supply to be hit

Power supply will be affected between Convent Junction and Colombo Junction between 9.30 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Friday owing to maintenance work, according to a KSEB communication.

E. Varghese Mathew and Abraham Varghese have assumed charge as president and secretary respectively of the Cochin branch of Indian Medical Association for 2005-2006. Junaid Rahman is the new treasurer.

Varkala B. Ravikumar was elected as vice-chairman of the Coconut Development Board at the 83rd board meeting held on Tuesday. Mr. Ravikumar represents the coconut farmers in the board.

Cultural

fete

Tarang '05, the annual cultural festival organised by the SCMS group of institutions began here today. The Vice-Chancellor of Cochin University of Science and Technology, P.K. Abdul Azis, inaugurated the festival. Competitions were held in events like mimicry, skit, mime, instrumental music and solo dance.
