BANGALORE, MARCH 31. A labourer was killed and another injured when earth caved in on them while they were digging a trench for the foundation of a commercial complex in the Sanjaynagar Police Station limits on Thursday. The police said the incident occurred around 11 a.m. at RMV Extension where Prasad, a businessman, is constructing the complex. As the labourers were digging a trench, earth caved in and two labourers were caught under it. Yellappa (22) was killed when a stone slab from the foundation of neighbouring building fell on his head. Renukamma (18), who was injured, was rescued, the police said. Yellappa was a native of Yadgir in Gulbarga district. The Sanjaynagar Police have registered a case. Incidents of construction workers getting killed in this manner are being regularly reported from the city of late. Since February five labourers have been killed in four such incidents. Two labourers were killed and four injured when earth caved in while they were digging a trench for the construction of a three-star hotel on Richmond Road in the Ashoknagar Police Station limits on February 5. On February 15, another labourer was killed when the embankment collapsed while he was digging a trench for the foundation of a house near Shivabalayogi Ashram in 3rd Phase in the J.P. Nagar Police Station limits. On February 28, a worker was killed and three were injured when mud caved in while they were digging a trench for laying a rail line at Venkatala village in the Yelahanka New Town Police Station limits.
