NEW DELHI, MARCH 31. Two alleged Uttar Pradesh-based criminals, who carried rewards on their heads, were arrested by the New and North Delhi police on Wednesday. The police allegedly recovered two firearms and live cartridges were recovered from. The Anti Auto-Theft Squad of the New Delhi police received a tip-off about Pradhan who had been extorting money from travel agents operating from Connaught Place, Paharganj and Gole Market. It came to light that for the past several months, Pradhan had been taking his cut for solving the disputes between travel agents. Acting on a specific tip-off that the suspect would come to Gole Market near a medical store, a team comprising Sub-Inspectors Binod Kumar and Rajender Prasad mounted a raid and arrested him. A pistol and a live cartridge were recovered from him. The police also conducted a raid at his residence and recovered his driving license. The suspect was identified as Ravinder, a resident of Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh. Ravinder carried a reward of Rs. 10,000 on his head declared by the Uttar Pradesh police. During interrogation, he allegedly disclosed that he was involved in cases of murder and kidnapping in Uttar Pradesh and Uttaranchal. In November 2002, he had allegedly kidnapped son of a Kolkata businessman from Dehra Dun, for a ransom of Rs. 80 lakhs. However, the victim was rescued by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police. The police said a reward of Rs. 2.500 was also declared on his head by the Hardwar police. In another case, the North Delhi police arrested Ghasita Ram, a resident of Hamirpur in Uttar Pradesh, who carried a reward of Rs. 10,000 on his head. A country-made pistol and two live cartridges were recovered from him. During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to his involvement in 16 cases of murder, robbery and kidnapping. Further investigations are on.
