The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded at Safdarjung on Thursday were 31.4 degrees Celsius and 18.2 degrees Celsius respectively, while Palam recorded a maximum temperature of 31.8 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 18.2 degrees Celsius. While the maximum and minimum relative humidity recorded at Safdarjung was 47 per cent and 17 per cent respectively, Palam recorded a maximum humidity of 53 per cent and a minimum of 25 per cent.
Three held on murder charge
According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (East Delhi), Garima Bhatnagar, the victims -- later identified as Surender and Rishi Kumar, -- were found in an unconscious state near a petrol pump around 11 p.m. on Monday. They were taken to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital where they were declared dead on arrival. Enquiries revealed that the two had a fight with some young men living in the area the same evening. The police zeroed in on Tapan Rai, Hafizul Sheikh and Asad-ul, who were found missing from their houses after the incident came to light. The three were subsequently arrested. During interrogation, Hafizul and Asad-ul allegedly disclosed that they were from Bangladesh. The accused confessed to having murdered Surender and Rishi over a monetary dispute. At their instance, the police have recovered the weapon of offence.
Auto-lifters arrested
Acting on a tip-off, the police arrested a person, Shoaib, who was moving on a stolen motorcycle. At his instance, they arrested two of his accomplices, Amit and Ranjit. During the operation, five stolen motorcycles, a scooter, two car stereos and five mobile phones were recovered from the accused, the police said. During interrogation, the accused disclosed that they also committed snatching.
Five arrested
The accused have been identified as Surender Kumar, Ashok, Deepak, Hanumant Mishra and Ajay. According to the police, they were arrested near ESI Hospital in the Okhla Industrial Area. At their instance, the police recovered stolen items worth about Rs. 2 lakhs. Further investigations into their other suspected involvement are on.
Four sentenced
Salini, who was married to Ajay Kaushik, committed suicide by consuming poison on March 24, 2002. Additional Sessions Judge R P S Teji sentenced Ajay, Durga Kaushik, the mother-in-law and Vijay, the brother-in-law to ten years imprisonmeat. Minu, the sister-in-law of the victim, was sentenced two years imprisonment. The family had cremated the body without informing the police and the girl's family. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 17,000 on Ajay, Durga and Vijay.
