`Zardari will take over party mantle'

By Our Special Correspondent

JAIPUR, APRIL 1. The Pakistan People's Party chief, Benazir Bhutto, said today that her husband, Asif Ali Zardari, would soon be taking over as party president.

Talking to newspersons at the Sanganer airport here today, Ms. Bhutto and Mr. Zardari hinted that they were on the threshold of giving a new thrust to their party.

"I am in touch with our party leaders in Pakistan," Mr. Zardari said.

Ms. Bhutto, who expressed her desire to return to Islamabad at the earliest, said that both of them were worried about their safety. "They may arrest me again once I reach there," Mr. Zardari said.

Ms. Bhutto said the reason for the pilgrimage to the Ajmer dargah was to thank `Kwaja' for his [Mr. Zardari's] release from custody. "Insha Allah (God willing), she will be Prime Minister of Pakistan again," Mr. Zardari said.
