Fellowship awarded

NEW DELHI APRIL 1. Madhava P. Shrivastava has been elected to fellowship in the American College of Cardiology. He received the certificate of fellowship at the 54th Annual Scientific Session at Orlando in Florida this past month. Dr. Shrivastava's name has been entered in the roster of the college and on the members' subscription list for the college journals.

Honour for CAPART chief

NEW DELHI APRIL 1. The director general of CAPART, L.V. Saptharishi will be presented the "Samaikya Bharath Gaurav Satkar 2005'' by the Madras Telugu Academy in Chennai this Sunday. The award is being given to him for his outstanding contribution as a developmental administrator. Mr. Saptharishi has in his capacity as director general of the organisation revamped its working with emphasis on transparency, expeditious disposal, flexible and innovative approach to bring in technology, employment and market opportunities for the rural poor through NGOs.

Centre for Values inaugurated

NEW DELHI APRIL 1. The Union Minister for Human Resource Development, Arjun Singh, recently inaugurated "The Mahatma Gandhi Centre for Values and Thoughts'' at a Central Board of Secondary Education affiliated school in Singapore."It is a matter of great pride for me to be able to grace this occasion for the unveiling of the Mahatma's statue in Singapore,'' said Mr. Singh speaking on the occasion. Coinciding with the celebrations of the 75th anniversary of the Dandi March, the Centre will go a long way in spreading awareness about his teachings.The CBSE chairman, Ashok Ganguly, was also present on the occasion.

Roerich remembered

NEW DELHI APRIL 1. Rich tributes were paid to eminent Russian artist-cum-archaeologist, Nicholas Roerich, by various speakers at a function held in the Capital earlier this week. Organised by the Russian Centre of Science and Culture, the function was dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Roerich Pact. An exhibition of 150 rare photo documents from the archives of Nicholas Roerich Museum in Moscow was also opened. Noted Gandhian Nirmala Deshpande said: "The remarkable contributions made by Roerich to the noble cause of treasuring the cultural heritage will ever be remembered by humanity."
