NEW DELHI, APRIL 1. The first carriageway of the road over Palam Drain connecting Dwarka to Pankha Road and built by Delhi Development Authority was inaugurated by the Member of Parliament from Outer Delhi, Sajjan Kumar, today. The inaugural ceremony was also attended by DDA Member and MLA of the area, Mahabal Mishra, the local Councillor and senior DDA officials. Inaugurating the carriageway, which is part of the project of DDA to cover the Palam Drain by making a road over it, Mr Kumar said, "it will give considerable relief to the residents of Dwarka''. He also lauded the DDA for providing such facilities to the residents of the area and to other citizens who would travel to the sub-city. The first carriageway is part of a project involving covering of the Palam Drain and the construction of 45-metre road over it. The Palam Drain will be covered for 2.3 km and will be one of the four major road linkages for Dwarka sub-city. The work of covering the Palam Drain will be completed at the cost of Rs. 37 crores approximately, the gathering was informed. Noting that the work has been executed in consultation with Central Road Research Institute who are the consultants for design as well as third party quality assurance of the project, DDA officials said the work of covering the Palam Drain is being done by diverting flow of water of the drain. However, there have been some difficulties in the construction process such as no space for plying of heavy machinery for executing the work. In spite of these difficulties the first carriageway has been completed. The construction of the second carriage way will be done by diverting the water flow and making it pass through the constructed RCC boxes. The balance work on the first carriageway up to Old Dabri Bridge and the second carriageway is in progress and is likely to be completed by June, 2006.
