Special prayers for the Pope

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM. April 1. The Metropolitan of the Thiruvananthapuram Archdiocese, Archbishop Susaipakiyam, has appealed to the public to pray for the ailing Pope John Paul II. A press note issued here today said special prayers would be held in all churches under the Archdiocese for the recovery of the Pope. The Archbishop of Changanassery, Mar Joseph Powathil, too has called for special prayers in all churches tomorrow for the Pope.

Stone laid for research centre

The Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Anbumani Ramadoss, today visited the Aakkulam and Peroorkada units of Hindustan Latex Ltd.

He commended the excellent performance registered by the company and the significant role it played in the national Reproductive and Child Health Programme and several projects it had undertaken in the rural areas to produce and supply a vast array of contraceptive and healthcare products. At Aakkulam, Dr. Ramadoss laid the foundation stone for the Hindustan Latex Ltd. Research and Development Centre, Capacity Expansion Projects and a recreation club centre. At Peroorkada, he laid the foundation stone for the expansion projects of the unit and a new auditorium and recreation centre for the employees.

Date extended

The Controller of Defence Account, Chennai, has extended the last date for receipt of applications for the Thiruvananthapuram Defence Adalat to April 27. The adalat will be held on April 28 and 29. Defence pensioners of Kerala having specific grievances relating to either sanction or disbursement of pensions may submit their representations in the prescribed form to the following address. IBS tops fete

The IBS software services emerged the overall champions for the second consecutive year at the Tech-a-Break competition that concluded yesterday at the Technopark. IBS won 48 points and won prizes in almost all the categories in which competitions were held.

Award

Noted scholar of Vedanta Dr. R. Karunakaran has been selected for the third C.V. award given by Sahridaya Vedi. The award would be given away at a function at the Theerthapada Mandapam on April 8.
