KOCHI, APRIL 1. Spiritual leaders from various parts of the country gathered at the Ernakulam Siva Temple ground today to participate in the Mahavrata Somayagam starting on Saturday. The chief patron of the yagna, Swami Vishweshara Theertha, head of the Udupi Pejawar Math, arrived to take part in the public reception organised by the Somayagam organising committee. Swami Poornamritanadapuri of Amritanandamayi Math; M.A. Krishnan Unni, Cochin Devaswom Board president; Gokulam Gopalan, Guruvayoor Devaswom Board member; Kummanam Rajasekharan, State secretary of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, and Satyavrathan from Shantidham Ashram were among those who spoke on the occasion. B. Girirajan, deputy chief patron of Somayagam committee, welcomed the spiritual leaders. Mohan Rao, general secretary, proposed a vote of thanks. Vedic pundit Ganesh Joglekar from Omshantidham Ashram in Bangalore will lead the yagna. On Friday morning, ashtadravya Ganapatihomam was led by Subramanian Namboothiripad, the principal of the Thantravidya Peetom at Aluva. Annayoot - feeding of elephants - was held after the ritual with 1,008 coconuts. Around 80 acharyas from various ashrams from across the country have arrived at the yagnasala.
