ERODE, APRIL 2. The 19-day Mariamman festival in Erode concluded today with the removal of Kambams. In connection with the Periya Mariamman, Chinna Mariamman and Vaikkal Mariamman festival, kambams were planted in front of the three temples on March 19. The temple chariot festival was conducted from March 30 to April 1. Today the kambams were taken out in procession along the main streets of Erode and were immersed into the Kalingarayan channel. To mark the removal of the Kambams, devotees poured turmeric-mixed water on each other and celebrated the day. Local shops and business establishments observed a holiday today. In connection with the Mariamman festival, the temple celebration committee organised various cultural programmes on Sengunthar HSS playground.
