"M.P. Government betraying interests of tribals"
By Our Staff Correspondent
BHOPAL,
APRIL 2.
The former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and All-India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary, Digvijay Singh, today said that the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Government in the State "is neither sensitive nor has any vision for ensuring the welfare of the Scheduled Tribes".
At a press conference here, Mr. Singh said that the BJP had never been serious about the welfare of the tribals. He said the Fifth Schedule of Constitution comprehensively dealt with the issue of administration and governance of the tribal areas. "How the provisions of the Constitution were being flouted in Madhya Pradesh under the BJP regime is amply demonstrated by the fact that even the Tribal Advisory Council (TAC) has not been set up in the State by two successive BJP Governments," he said, adding that the issues confronting the tribals should be taken up by the TAC, which should meet at least twice a year.
