TUTICORIN, APRIL 2. The police seized pirated pornographic visual compact discs from a shopping complex here on Friday. One Kulam Kadhar (20) was arrested. Speaking to press persons here today, Sandeep Rai Rathore, Superintendent of Police, said a raid was conducted by a special team, led by sub-inspectors, Anil Kumar and Mahimaiveeran, on information that clandestine sale of pirated VCDs was taking place here. Altogether, 120 pirated and eight pornographic VCDs were seized. The accused was remanded in the judicial custody under Sections 4 and 6 of Prohibition of Indecent Representation of Women Act, 1986, and Section 63 of Copy Rights Act 1957, he said
Rehabilitation
Mr. Rathore said as part of rehabilitation measures, Rs.9,55,000 was disbursed to 87 persons, who were once involved in illicit liquor trade, till December last. He said Rs.65,000 for rehabilitation of 10 ex-prohibition offenders would be disbursed shortly by the district administration.
Detained
The SP said three persons from the district were detained under the Goondas Act during this week. They were Rajapandi, a resident of Kovilpatti, Sundar and Mani, both hailing from Thattaparai.
