Washington: The former National Security Adviser in the Clinton administration, Samuel "Sandy" Berger has formally pleaded guilty to stealing classified documents from the National Archives and destroying some of the material relating to terrorism. Mr. Berger faces a maximum of one year in prison and a $100,000 fine; but under a plea agreement the former senior official at the White House between 1997 and 2000 will not see prison and pay the fine. Mr. Berger had taken handwritten notes in his trousers, jacket and in a leather portfolio when he was reviewing material at the National Archives for testifying before the September 11 National Commission which was looking at intelligence failures leading up to the attack on the U.S.
