Jailed for torturing husband

RAIGANJ (WEST BENGAL), APRIL 2. A local court today sentenced a woman to three years' rigorous imprisonment after convicting her of torturing her husband at Kaliaganj area in West Bengal's North Dinajpur district. District sessions judge Intaj Ali Shah passed the order after convicting Supriya Sarkar (32) of torturing her husband on November 18, 1999. Supriya had been arrested after her husband Nirmalendu filed a complaint that she poured carbolic acid in his mouth.

The judge observed that he was awarding three years' rigorous imprisonment considering that the woman had a 7-year-old child. — PTI
