Fishing harbour project awaits Agriculture Ministry clearance

By Our Staff Reporter

PONDICHERRY, APRIL 2. A meeting of the Expenditure Finance Committee of the Agriculture Ministry will be held in New Delhi on April 18 to clear a Rs 34-crore fishing harbour for Karaikal, the Pattali Makkal Katchi Parliamentary party leader, M Ramadass, told newsmen here today.

The project, cleared by the Union Environment Ministry, was referred to the Agriculture Ministry.

Mr.Ramadass said a cancer care centre was approved for Karaikal and it would be set up at a cost of Rs 3 crores. Centres were approved for 10 hospitals in different States and he persuaded the Health Ministry to include Karaikal.

He felt that a Rural Development Review Committee could be formed in Pondicherry so that developmental activities in rural areas could be implemented fast.

Referring to the take over the Bharathi and Swadeshi Cotton Mills here by the Pondicherry Textiles Corporation (PTC) from the control of National Textiles Corporation (NTC) here on April 1, he said that it was indeed a historic development. He said that the mills could be modernised and job opportunities increased.

Employees thank MP

A section of employees of the Swadeshi Cotton mills called on Mr.Ramadass at his office in Uppalam here today and thanked him for his intervention to procure a hike in their wages.
