ISLAMABAD, APRIL 2. The Pakistan President, Pervez Musharraf, has said he will take up the Kashmir issue with the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, when he visits New Delhi on April 16 to watch the last one-day India-Pakistan cricket match the following day. Gen. Musharraf told Cabinet members of Balochistan in Quetta this evening that he looked forward to his visit to India and discussions with the Indian leadership on a number of subjects, including Kashmir. Earlier, at the centenary celebrations of the Command and Staff College in Quetta, the Pakistan President said his country had put in place the strategy to gain defensive deterrence with India in the nuclear field and efforts were on to achieve the same in the conventional field. He claimed that Pakistan today was placed better both politically and diplomatically. On the geo-political environment, the President said the strategy of "defensive deterrence" was in place and his country had already achieved all goals in the unconventional field to implement this policy. As regards the conventional field, efforts were on to address all "imbalances." Gen. Musharraf said extremism was the main threat to the security of Pakistan and misuse of religious institutions must be checked. The country must correct the "wrong perceptions" about it.
