THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, APRIL 2. Sneha Susan Thomas with a hard-fought 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over Shivani claimed the girls' under-12 singles title of the TCTDS Open tennis tournament at the TTC courts here on Saturday. The day also witnessed Swathi Kanth enter the finals of the boys' under-16 and under-14 singles with wins over U.K. Jayaram (6-3, 6-4) and H. Sooraj (6-1, 6-3) respectively. With the city experiencing rain in the afternoon, the entire second session schedule was washed out. Later, the organisers said the tournament would be extended by a day. It will now conclude only on Monday (April 4).
Boys: Under-18 (semifinals): S.L. Arun bt M.S. Sarath Lal 7-6, 4-6, 6-3; G.L. Vivek bt N.R. Abhilash 5-7, 6-2, 6-2. Under-16 (semifinals): Swathi Kanth bt U.K. Jayaram 6-3, 6-4. Under-14 (semifinals): Swathi Kanth bt H. Sooraj 6-1, 6-3.
Under-12 doubles (semifinals): Anand George & Solomon G. Thomas bt Vibhav Suresh & Mathew Lathra 9-1; Mohammed Hamraz & H. Sooraj bt Vignesh V. Gopal & Sachin Vinod 9-6.
