ADILABAD, APRIL 2. Horticulture has thrown open new avenues for job-seekers, thanks to the revolutionary experiments going on in this `art of gardening'. Not only does it hold a promise for private enterprisers, but also gives assurance on employment front. Horticulture Polytechnic at Adilabad (only two in the State) will have its first batch of students coming out of the institute by August this year.
Scope for rural youth
"We had established Horticulture Polytechnic in November 2003 with the main objective of encouraging rural youth to take up horticulture for their livelihood. The intake is 25 students for this two-year course. The syllabus comprises a package of practical oriented training," disclosed the Principal. P. Suryanarayana Reddy. "Already, a few private companies have shown keenness to employ our students. The VKL Spices of Kochi in Kerala is willing to take our students. There are job opportunities in the areas of seed production, fruit and vegetable processing in horticulture extension programmes, etc.," said the assistant professor, V. Vijaya Bhaskar. The 12,000-tree mango orchard and floriculture plots, spread in 45 acres of Acharya N.G. Ranga Agriculture University's Horticulture Research Station, comes in handy for on field training of students.
