HYDERABAD, APRIL 2. To encourage fair play in the valuation of scripts, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) has decided to introduce an innovative revaluation system from the next academic year with options heavily loaded in favour of the students. JNTU Vice-Chancellor, Y. Venkatrami Reddy, said students could apply for revaluation by paying Rs. 500 for each subject. However, if the difference of marks is more than 12 between both the valuations the student would get the new score and the old marks would be the official mark if the difference was less than 12 marks.
Criteria
However, if the student passes from a failure position with the difference being less than 12 marks the new tally would be taken into account. For example, if a student scores 25 marks originally and gets five additional marks in revaluation, the new score of 30 would be the official score, though the difference is less than 12. The passing mark is 28 for all the subjects. To be fair to the students, the University would refund Rs. 500 fee if the difference is more than 12 marks or they pass in the revaluation. "It is unfair to charge the students if the mistake lies with the valuators", Prof. Reddy said. Regarding the 12 mark cut-off, he said it was the 15 per cent of the total 80 marks earmarked for each paper. Generally, the difference between two valuations is never big and only in genuine cases they are more than 12 marks."
