THRISSUR, APRIL 2. The supply of drinking water to the Guruvayur Sree Krishna Temple may be affected following a dispute between the Thaikkad panchayat and the Guruvayur Devaswom. According to the Devaswom administrator, K. Anil Kumar, the Devaswom buys 30 tankers of water from a private agency to supplement its daily needs. In the peak of summer, the Devasom buys up to 45 tankers. The water is used to supplement the supply to the temple, Panchajanyam, Kausthubham and Sreevalsam guest houses, Devaswom hospital and the police station. The private agency draws the water from a well it owns in the Thaikkad panchayat. When the panchayat issued a notice against the water being drawn, the agency took the matter to court. The Chavakkad munsiff stayed the ruling of the panchayat. The Thaikkad panchayat president, Joy Cherian, met Mr. Anil Kumar on Friday. Mr. Anil Kumar said the panchayat had agreed to share five tankers of water. "But we need more water. Experts have said that the panchayat will be least affected by sharing the water. The Devaswom managing committee will meet on April 3 to discuss the issue," the administrator said.
