THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, APRIL 2. A standoff between Shiv Sena workers and local people at Malambarakonam resulted in a tense situation in the Valiamala police station limits on Saturday. The Dy.SP, Nedumangadu, G. Somasekharan Nair, said the local people had gathered in strength in the area demanding that the Shiv Sena backed ashramam, Suryapeedom, be shifted from the locality. The ashramam headed by one Mohanan was involved in faith healing practices, he said. The tension occurred when Shiv Sena volunteers gathered in the same area in support of the ashramam head. Later, the representatives of both groups were summoned to the local police station. It was agreed that the ashramam would be shifted from the area within 35 days, Mr. Nair said.
