THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, APRIL 2. The Fifth Economic Census will get under way in Kerala in the first week of May. A meeting of officials was held here on Friday to work out its details, with the Chief Secretary, Palat Mohandas, in the chair. It decided to depute 5,200 women enumerators of the Kudumbashree for the census work. They would be given special training for handling the work. The census will cover agricultural and non-agricultural economic ventures engaged in production and distribution and services sectors. Cultivation for self- consumption and plantations would not be covered. The details collected as part of the exercise would be used to draw up schemes aimed at correcting regional imbalances in economic development. The meeting has asked the people to cooperate with the census. The meeting was attended by the Additional Director of the Central Statistical Organisation, S.K. Nath, the DGP, Raman Srivasatava, the Planning Secretary, S.M.Vijayanand, the Director of Census Operations, Sheela Thomas, the Employment Director, Ramachandra Babu and the Director of Economics and Statitstics, M.R. Balakrishnan, among others.
