CHENNAI, APRIL 2. A high drama preceded the arrest of two pocket pickers on Anna Salai today. The police said Rajagopal, a head constable, on duty near the Safire bus stop, saw a person attempting to rob a woman on a bus bound for Foreshore Estate. He boarded the bus and caught hold of him. The constable also noticed his accomplice on the bus. But before he could board the vehicle again, it moved away. The policeman left the person in the custody of a well-built man at the bus stop and chased the bus in an autorickshaw. Meanwhile, the man already in custody escaped. Senior officers were informed and a patrol vehicle was sent to secure him. On seeing the police, the man fell down on the road, feigning to be unconscious, and tried to flee. The constable returned to the bus stop with the second suspect. Suman of Tiruvottiyur and Suresh of Anna Salai, were arrested.
