Vijayawada
By Our Special Correspondent
Jasti Sambasiva Rao
VIJAYAWADA, APRIL 2. While boasting about achievements in public life has become the order of the day, J. Sambasiva Rao, corporator of the 42nd division, stands apart from his counterparts. Though he claims of initiating several developmental works in his ward, he is equally unhappy that he could secure none of them by regular procedures like discussions in the general body and passing resolutions. "There are no formal proposals or any discussion in the general body for taking up works. Much depends on the mood of the officers," he says. According to him, the corporators had literally nothing to do in the first two-and-a-half years. It was only after Praveen Kumar took over that the pace of development of the city accelerated. The present Commissioner, V. Usharani, too was keen on developing the city and initiated several programmes. "But it is the indifference of the lower level officials that hurts," he says. Mr. Rao's popularity among residents could be gauged from the fact that he won as an independent after being refused the ticket by the TDP. He, however, continues to be an ardent follower of the party and profusely thanks the then MP, Gadde Ramamohan, for the help extended by the latter in the development of his ward. "Had the TDP come back to power, much of the development would have already taken place in my ward," he says. It was because of the initiatives taken by Mr. Rao that the ward now boasts of blacktopped roads while development of parks and other recreation works is also under progress.
Cooperative people
Conscious of the support he enjoys among residents, Mr. Rao expresses his gratitude towards residents who cooperated with him on every count by coming forward to contribute their share for taking up development works.
